Carys Bryn is an artist from the Pwllheli area of the Llyn Peninsula, bordering on Eifionydd.
She comes from a farming background and had spent the last 30 years as an Art Teacher at her local community secondary school. Carys is very passionate about teaching and has had a very happy and successful career. She’s always considered it to be a huge privilege to have had the opportunity to teach and connect with so much of the younger generation within her society. Throughout her devoted years of teaching she’s been balancing her own career as an artist herself.
Carys gained a degree in Printmaking, but found herself doing all sorts of work despite this! She loved every challenge and aspect of being an artist, from creating models, large murals, logo designing and illustrating books including ‘Tecwyn y Tractor’. She started painting in 2008 and was lucky to exhibit in various galleries in Wales and England.
Her painting vary in style and momentum and can range from gimmicks to atmospheric. Inspirations are mainly from her farming background and the Llyn Peninsula’s beautiful scenery. Carys always say’s that she’s looking for ‘new recipies’ and ideas.
Cian Parry Owen is the eldest son of Carys Bryn and is also a well-known artist in the area. He has thoroughly enjoyed art since a very young age and has painted and drawn regularly and eventually obtained a degree in fine art at Cardiff. He is mostly known for his illustrative work with ‘Stick Men’ and started drawing local villages and towns during the 2020 lockdown, mainly as a way to pass time as he was unable work. He certainly created something positive from such a negative period of time by using art as his therapy! Prints and Original work available.
Beca Anwyl is Carys’ younger daughter. Beca is mixed-media maker/artist and is working under the name ‘Anwyl’. She’s been slowly evolving her work since 2018 where she started with her mixed media soldered pendants, and then personalized gifts and commissioned art work over the last few years. Beca has recently expanded ‘Anwyl’ to offer more homeware goods by expanding the variation of her handmade products and by also stocking products from wholesale and other local makers. Anwyl’s products are on display at Lle Art Carys Bryn and available on her website – www.siopanwyl.co.uk.
